Terry West Civil Legal Clinic Director publishes opinion on justice in tenant eviction proceedings
Law students in the Terry West Civil Legal Clinic at the University of Tulsa College of Law spent part of their spring semester observing eviction proceedings. They also conducted an in-depth analysis of the January eviction docket from online records. What they found is that tenants face significant access to justice barriers in eviction court.

Terry West is a well-known and respected Oklahoma trial lawyer. As a teenager, he graduated at the top of his 12-student class in Francis, just northeast of Ada in Pontotoc County. He attended East Central University and the University of Oklahoma before earning his juris doctorate from the University of Tulsa College of Law. West started his career in the newspaper business, but he wound up building The West Law Firm in Shawnee as one of the most successful law practices in the state.

Access to justice for underserved communities: TU Law opens the Terry West Civil Legal Clinic
On Tuesday, October 1, The University of Tulsa College of Law hosted a facility tour and a luncheon to mark the grand opening of the Terry West Civil Legal Clinic. This newest addition to TU Law’s clinical education program was made possible through a generous contribution from Sarkeys Foundation. Attendees at the clinic launch included Terry West; Kim Henry, executive director of Sarkeys Foundation and former first lady of the State of Oklahoma; Former Gov. Brad Henry; Justice Douglas L. Combs of the Oklahoma Supreme Court; TU President Gerard Clancy and Provost Janet Levit; Roni Amit, director of the Terry West Civil Legal Clinic; Mimi Marton, TU Law’s associate dean for experiential learning; and Pierre Robertson, president of TU Law’s Student Bar Association.

Terry West Civil Legal Clinic at UT School of Law
The University of Tulsa, School of Law has just announced that a grant from Sarkeys Foundation will enable the creation of the “Terry West Civil Legal Clinic” at the UT School of Law, which is scheduled to open later this year.
The clinic will focus on a broad range of legal issues facing the under-served and at-risk community while offering pro bono legal services to these individuals.
It’s an honor to have the “Terry West Civil Legal Clinic” named after our founder and to have his name associated with the clinic and its commitment to public service.

On Monday, Shawnee City Commissioners approved a resolution retaining attorneys in an effort to derail the opioid epidemic.
According to the resolution, the City of Shawnee has selected the legal team of The West Law Firm, Fulmer Sill, and McAfee & Taft, a Professional Corporation, to serve as counsel in filing a civil suit against opioid manufacturers, distributors and marketers for penalties, damages, injunctive relief and any other remedy available by law.

Brad West Participates in $1.4 Million Settlement, Compensating Young Victims
Brad West of The West Law Firm recently participated in a successful $1.4 million settlement in a civil suit that follows an earlier criminal conviction against a former McLoud Public School teacher. For more than a year, the teacher victimized 14 young female students, taking inappropriate photos and sharing them outside the school. Brad West represented two of the 14 students, and he and other attorneys associated with the civil case reached a settlement in which each student in the suit would receive approximately $100,000 in compensation.

Salvation Army Coat Donation Program
In 2015, The West Law Firm celebrated the seventh year of its "Coat Donation Program" with The Salvation Army of Shawnee. Since 2009, the firm has annually contributed new coats for those in need in Shawnee and Pottawatomie County. Each year, since the beginning of this program, the firm has increased the total number of coats donated through The Salvation Army. According to Donna Rogers, who coordinates the program for the firm, more than 1,700 new coats have been donated over the seven-year period.
Brad West Named Secretary of ABOTA Chapter of Oklahoma
The West Law Firm Partner, Brad West, has been named as Secretary for the Oklahoma Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) for calendar year 2015. ABOTA is a national organization whose membership is by invitation only and is based upon an attorney's trial experience, integrity, and reputation. Its primary goal is to educate the public about the importance of the trial by jury system in America.

Project Safe Recognizes Terry West
Terry West was recently recognized with a service award by "Project Safe" (PS) for his dedicated nine-year support and financial contributions to the Shawnee-based, non-profit organization which provides shelter and other services for victims of domestic violence. PS Auxiliary President Kaye Steele Harrod, who organized the annual fundraising program, said West's donations have totaled thousands of dollars, which have been used for the vital services provided by "Project Safe."
