Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder and Ovarian Cancer

Have you or someone in your family been diagnosed with ovarian cancer after regular use of Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder?

If so, we’re here to help.  We’re The West Law Firm, a personal injury law firm with more than 50 years of trial-tested experience and success for our clients.

Baby Powder vs. Powder Keg

Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder has been used by adults (and primarily women) since the 1970s, after pediatricians began expressing concerns about the possibility of babies inhaling the talc, the primary ingredient of baby powder.  By the early 2000s, it’s estimated that 90-percent of the baby powder products were used by adults.

For decades women have used talcum powder products, like Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder, as feminine hygiene product, believing it was safe, since the leading producer carried the iconic family brand name, Johnson & Johnson.

Unfortunately, it’s now clear that behind the baby powder is a powder keg.

Johnson & Johnson is now facing a growing number of lawsuits and legal action by individuals suffering from ovarian cancer linked to talcum powder containing asbestos.

Here in Oklahoma and throughout the U.S., more and more women and their families are now recognizing the link between long-term use of talc-based baby powder and ovarian cancer.

Now is the time to act!  If you or someone in your family is suffering from ovarian cancer after regular use of Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder, contact us at The West Law Firm.

Cover Up

As early as 1971, the link between talcum powder and ovarian cancer was established in a study published in The Lancet, a leading international medical journal.  That same year, a Johnson & Johnson executive recommended the company “upgrade its quality control of talc,” according to an in-depth investigative story in The New York Times (December 18, 2018).  Nothing happened.

To date, more than 20 studies have been published on this topic, and as a whole, the studies suggest there is a 30-percent increased risk for ovarian cancer associated with the use of talcum powder.

Over the past 30 years, Johnson & Johnson has pushed back on this growing health concern, but it appears the cover up is coming to light.

In late October of this year, Johnson & Johnson announced a recall of more than 30,000 bottles of its baby powder products, from shelves at Walmart, CVS, Rite Aid and other retailers.  This, as a result of an ongoing product testing program by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

Whether this signals change or a diversion by Johnson & Johnson remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the damage has been done.
